HDFC: Need customer service? Please wait!

By Rajesh Barnwal

I have a credit card account with the HDFC Bank. Yesterday I needed the statement of my account transaction for the last three months. So, I went to the nearest branch of the Bank and requested for the statement at the reception. In response I was told about the bank’s policy according to which the bank would provide me the statement only if I request it at their phone banking service.

And the world is talking about IT revolution, about instant connectivity and instant access of information. And here is a bank that cannot and will not provide the statement of a credit card account of its customer even when the customer has gone so far as reaching its hallowed precinct.

Never minding all that, I returned and after some time picked up my cell phone and called the HDFC’s phone banking service. And I had to call four times before I could register my request with the customer care executive. For the other three times my call got disconnected after forcing me each time to incessantly hear the recorded statement — our customer care executives are busy with attending the calls of other customers and so please wait.

And since I forgot to ask by what time my request would be complied with, the customer care executive, who had responded to my call on the fourth time, did not bother to offer me this information. In fact I called the fifth time to get this information, but I could not bear any more the same irritating recorded voice – our customers care executives are busy with attending the calls of other customers…

As it is, I have no idea, by when I will receive my credit card account’s statement.
